café central
I would be smiling if this was my other office!
SIGH….but it’s not!
We are all looking for that special other
office or ‘Office Café’ where the coffee is excellent, the food is fast
self-service, tasty and reasonably priced.
A space where you are surrounded by like-minded
professional and creative people who need a space for a few dedicated hours to
sit and work or to chat over a proposal with a colleague or a team from work!
All over the world, it has been recognised that the
small businesses sector and entrepreneurs play an important, if not critical,
role in the economic and social development of a country. This is also true for
South Africa.

Entrepreneurs and small businesses need conducive ‘Office
Cafés’ to meet and work in.

I am still to find the ideal place that meets the
needs of business men and women in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg who
arrive for a coffee and a bite to eat with their laptops!
With E-Tolls and
traffic congestion commuters are also looking for refuge when the robots are
down and they still want to get a head start on work and miss the first two hours
of peak traffic. Almost an impossibility unless there is an ‘Office Café’ that
is open from 06h30 to 18h30. A new venture catering solely to business people
might just fill a gap in the market. Is there anything like this in the
Northern suburbs of Johannesburg? I haven’t found it yet.

An ‘Office Café’, a place and space with excellent
coffee, fast healthy food and lots of power outlets for laptops, good light,
comfortable chairs and easy access to parking. Plus several copies of each of
the daily newspapers and you will have a very happy and satisfied clientele.

I envisage something like this taking shape very
soon.

The History of the Café Central – a Viennese Institution
The History of the Café Central – a Viennese Institution
In
the traditional Viennese café, which was opened in 1876, well-known people from
the world of art, literature, politics and science met to discuss the great
issues happening in the world, as well as events in Viennese society. Famous
writers even used the Café Central as their creative workplace: Franz Kafka,
Alfred Polgar, Robert Musil, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arthur Schnitzler and
Siegmund Freud were included amongst the regular guests and the poet Peter
Altenberg was so closely associated with the Café Central that he gave it as
his place of residence!

Everyone
needs a home from home office!
